She forgot I’ve been the CEO of this family for 20 years…. The opulent timber mansion of Eleanor Sterling in Beverly Hills always exuded an air of old-money grandeur. But ever since Lena, the 24-year-old housekeeper with mischievous eyes and “accidentally” revealing nightgowns, arrived, the atmosphere began to reek of sinister ambition.
Lena made no secret of her intentions. She coveted Mrs. Sterling’s diamond jewelry, her luxury cars, and the distinguished charm of Mr. Sterling, Eleanor’s husband. Lena firmly believed that with her youthful looks, she could easily replace the “aging” wife, step into the role of mistress, and live a life of lavish ease.
Eleanor was not blind. She noticed Lena’s deliberate low bows while wiping tables in front of Richard, saw the strange concoctions Lena secretly added to her ginseng tea, aiming to make her feel unwell and irritable. But instead of throwing a furious fit, Eleanor merely smiled – a knowing, enigmatic smile of a woman who had navigated the cutthroat world of high finance her entire life.
“Lena, my mother back in Connecticut is gravely ill. I need to go care for her for about a week. Please make sure the master of the house is well-fed and ‘carefully’ looked after,” Eleanor instructed, deliberately emphasizing the last word.
Lena’s eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. This was the golden opportunity she had been waiting for. “Yes, Mrs. Sterling, don’t you worry. I’ll take the best care of Mr. Sterling possible.”
As soon as Eleanor’s Rolls-Royce pulled out of the driveway, Lena underwent a dramatic transformation. She was no longer the humble housekeeper. She pulled out an arsenal of sheer nightgowns from her suitcase, doused herself in heavy perfume, and set her trap.
That evening, Lena plied Richard with expensive Scotch. In his drunken stupor and the brazen invitation of youth, Richard’s restraint crumbled. For the next few days, the mansion became their private playground. Lena brazenly treated herself as the lady of the house. She wore Eleanor’s perfume, slept in her expensive master bed, and even took selfies to send to her friends, boasting about her impending “victory.”
On the sixth day, Lena decided to deliver the final blow. She secretly swapped Eleanor’s birth control pills for vitamins. She also orchestrated a scene to convince Richard that she was “pregnant” with his child. Her plan was to force Eleanor to sign the divorce papers the moment she walked through the door.
On the seventh day, Eleanor returned. But she wasn’t alone. Following her was an entourage: a team of lawyers, a medical doctor, and even Lena’s own mother, who had been flown in from her small hometown.
Lena, lounging nonchalantly on the sofa, a glass of Cabernet in hand, showed no fear when she saw Eleanor. Instead, she smirked confidently: “You’re back, Mrs. Sterling? Too bad, I meant to tell you sooner. Mr. Sterling and I are officially a family now. I’m carrying his child. You should really just sign the papers and leave quietly.”
Richard stood beside Lena, his face a mixture of fear and the smug satisfaction of a man who had successfully “traded up.” But Eleanor just burst into laughter—a chilling, hearty laugh that sent shivers down their spines. “Lena, Lena, you are clever, but you forgot one crucial thing: This house, the company where my husband sits as CEO, and all the assets—they are all in my name. Richard is merely an employee of mine.”
Eleanor tossed a thick file onto the coffee table. “And as for the ‘pregnancy’ you mentioned… Richard, perhaps you should have your fertility checked. I’ve known you had a vasectomy five years ago, after we agreed not to have any more children, didn’t I? Or perhaps Miss Lena here is capable of immaculate conception?”
Lena’s face drained of color, turning from rosy to stark white, then a furious purple. She stammered, “No… no way…”
But the nightmare wasn’t over. Eleanor activated the tablet on the table. The screen flickered to life, displaying a series of hidden camera footage: Lena secretly adding “strange pills” to Eleanor’s tea, Lena rummaging through the safe, and even screenshots of text messages where Lena discussed her “gold-digging” scheme with an old boyfriend. Eleanor had discreetly installed hidden cameras throughout the mansion just before she “left for her mother’s.”
“I didn’t go back to Connecticut to care for my mother, Lena. I went to invite your mother here to witness her daughter’s ‘accomplishments’,” Eleanor said coldly, glancing at the bewildered, tearful woman standing at the doorway.
Eleanor then turned to her husband, her eyes sharp as daggers: “As for you, Richard, the divorce papers are ready. You will walk out of this house with nothing but the clothes on your back. Your assets, your position… everything will be revoked today. I gave you a chance, but you chose a viper over your family.”
The police arrived moments later. Lena was charged with attempted battery (for the pills) and grand larceny (for attempting to steal assets). She shrieked, begged, and clung to Richard’s legs, but he was too busy trembling and trying to save his own skin.
The wail of police sirens tore through the quiet opulence of the mansion. Eleanor calmly sat down on the sofa, pouring herself a fresh cup of tea. No matter how cunning a fox may be, it can never outsmart the hunter who has laid traps in the shadows.
